Back in the 1940’s rocket scientists were trying to come up with ways to more accurately guide missiles, but a psychologist by the name B. F. Skinner came up with a unique idea, use pigeons to physically guide rockets to their targets. this is the story of the pigeon rockets of WW2.
It’s 1943. Nazi Germany still has its clutches across most of Europe, but after a crushing defeat at Stalingrad, they’re beginning the retreat that would eventually lead to their downfall. But even with the Germans in retreat in the east, the war was far from over. In the summer of 43 they still occupied some 20 countries, controlled more than a million square miles, a size nearly equal to that of the United States, and had subjugated more than a 100 million people.
This left the Americans stuck trying to solve a tricky puzzle. Rocket technology had advanced considerably over the course of the war. The following year the Germans would begin launching their V2
