Titles read: “Everybody’s looking for a new Dance step to vary the constant fox-trot - quickstep - waltz sequence. Today Santos Casani the famous Teacher of Ballroom Dancing (with Jean Mence), will explain the new “Charles“ Step.“
London (probably Pathe Studio).
Three couples are seen doing a fancy little dance step to a jaunty tune. Santos Casani and Jean Mence are one couple. When the music stops, Santos steps forward and explains that in the ’Charles’ Step involves walking on the ball of your foot and dropping onto the heel.
A brief split screen sequence shows Santos and Jean walking through the basic steps; at the top of the screen we see C/U of their feet from ground level; the bottom half of the screen shows the soles of their feet, photographed from below a glass floor. Various shots, some in the split screen format described above, show us the new steps in detail. We then see Santos and Jean and the other couples putting the steps into practise in social dancing.
