Charlie Kunz (1935)

Titles read: ’NOW Pathe Pictorial has pleasure in presenting - [sic] introduces one of the most popular artists ’on the air’ - CHARLIE KUNZ of the famous Casani Club Orchestra’. (Mistake in titles!) White City, London. Pianist Charlie Kunz arrives in a fabulous white car at what looks like a coach park. A large crowd of people are waiting for him. Commentator explains that Kunz is “playing the Good Samaritan, entertaining the West London cripples before they started for their annual outing“. Charlie sits down at a piano amongst the crowds and plays the ballad ’The Very Thought of You’ while they look on. Some disabled people are in wheelchairs. The mayor (of London or West London?) is standing near the piano in some shots. Santos Casani is also seen, bobbing to the music when Charlie goes into a syncopated section (this part could be the tune ’Miss Annabel Lee’). At the end of the tune the crowd all clap, then we see them going off in coaches while Charlie, Santos and the Mayor wave goodbye.
