Most hamstring injuries occur during intense sprinting actions. These injuries occur most frequently during the late swing phase of the running stride, which is primarily eccentric dominant.
Additionally, injuries are prominent during the foot strike phase from eccentric to concentric transition. With these reasons presented it is imperative that athletes train their hamstrings to handle eccentric loads.
