Sartre’s theory of bad faith

Support Overthink on Patreon here: Professor Ellie Anderson, co-host of Overthink philosophy podcast, introduces the theory of bad faith in existential philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre’s Being and Nothingness. She suggests that, while bad faith most often takes the form of denying one’s own freedom, there’s a second form of bad faith that is often neglected in readings of Sartre: denying one’s transcendence. This form is especially evident in Sartre’s account of the woman on a date (sometimes known as the “coquette“).
