Fritz Wunderlich: Granada (Lara, 1932) - Lyrics in German and English

My tribute to the German lyric tenor Fritz Wunderlich (1930-1966). “Granada“ is the work of the Mexican composer Agustín Lara (1897-1970). This recording of Granada dates to May 31, 1965; Hans Carste conducts the Graunke Symphony Orchestra. Wunderlich’s promising career was cut short when, just a few days short of his 36th birthday, he fell from a stairway in a friend’s country house in Oberderdingen near Maulbronn, and died in the University Clinic of Heidelberg. At the time of his death, he had been recording Haydn’s “The Creation,“ with the Berlin Philharmonic and the Wiener Singverein under Herbert von Karajan, the other soloists being Christa Ludwig, Gundula Janowitz, Walter Berry and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.
