Andreas Werckmeister- (1645-1706) Canzona in A minor

This is one of Werckmeister’s five extant pieces for organ. It is in three parts. The first part has a head motif of eight repeating 16th notes, listening closely and you can hear this motif bounce between the voices. The middle section begins in the pedals with a 6 repeating note head motif and builds as the layers of voices are added on top of the pedals. The final section displays reeds and the 1 3/5’ & 1 1/3’ Tertian II stop.
