Andreas Werckmeister (1645-1706) Praeludium ex. G-Dur

This is a praeludium in the standard North German praeludium format of alternating sections of toccata and fugal writing. It begins with a toccata pedal solo but soon manuals and pedals are together in a 16’ plenum sound. The first fugue is light and delicate. A bridge in full chords on a secondary plenum sound follows. The second fugue is a dancing 6/4 rhythm using the Trumpet and mixture. The fugue breaks away and gives rise to scales and repeated four note groups in a toccata style of writing.
