Hypervelocity Impact of an Aluminum Sphere on an Aluminum-Kevlar Orbital Debris Shield
This simulation shows the hypervelocity impact of an aluminum sphere on an aluminum-Kevlar orbital debris shield.
The numerical method and parallel code used to perform this simulation were developed at the University of Texas at Austin. High performance computing resources were provided by the Arctic Region Supercomputing Center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The video was produced by the Data Analysis and Assessment Center, the unclassified visualization center of the Department of Defense High Performance Computing Modernization Program. This research was sponsored by the Office of Naval Research and NASA Johnson Space Center.
