China vetos US’ resolution, opposing its neglect of excessive force and long occupation of Palestine

On Wednesday, the U.N. Security Council once again failed to address the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli tensions. Both the United States and Russia proposed resolutions, but they were rejected. China’s UN envoy explained the objection to the US resolution, stating that the draft evaded the most pressing issue and lacked a clear call for a ceasefire. It also neglects vital aspects like indiscriminate force and the root causes of the Gaza crisis, further jeopardize the humanitarian situation. The draft also neglects the long-standing occupation and crucial issue of Palestinian statehood, introducing a dangerous narrative that may hinder a two-state solution. In the vote, along with China, Russia and the United Arab Emirates also voted no, while Brazil and Mozambique abstained. On the same day, Russia’s resolution for a ceasefire was rejected for the second time, lacking the minimum support needed as the US cast a veto. The Council’s deadlock over a unified response deepened, as both Russia and the US faced objections to their plans after vetoing a Russian resolution and a Brazilian proposal the previous week. __________________ ShanghaiEye focuses on producing top-quality contents.
