Lina Cavalieri in great sound: “Maria, Mari“, Jewel Aria (Faust), Habanera (Carmen)

The Italian soprano Lina Cavalieri is still acclaimed for her wondrous beauty and charm (having been dubbed the “most beautiful woman of the world“ - rightly so), but that perhaps became a beautiful curse to her artistic legacy, since many people end up neglecting her considerable charms also as a singer and performer. As these 3 endearing recordings(with cleaned and improved sound quality) demonstrate, Cavalieri had a very beautiful and feminine timbre and knew how to phrase with much nuance and grace, giving tasteful but still seductive, even sensual vocal interpretations. Her Jewel Aria also includes some lovely trills and rich higher notes, while she shows off a solid low registers in the other two recordings. 1. Neapolitan song: Maria, Marì! [0:00] 2. Faust: Ah! je ris de me voir (Gounod) - in Italian [3:50] 3. Carmen: L’amour est un oiseau rebelle (Bizet) [8:02]
