Juvenile flying-fox in care: this is Tim Tam just before release

Tim Tam is a juvenile male Grey-Headed Flying-Fox who was found, stuck on a glass balustraded balcony about 10 weeks ago. He’s been in care, recovering, and growing up a bit, then waiting for his place in the release flight aviary. This year we’ve had so many bats in care there has been a queue for aviary space for release. Batties who have been in care for longer than a week aren’t flight fit for hard release so need a softer release protocol. They go to the fight aviary, can fly around there and get fitter, then are released. They don’t have to go if they don’t want to and there is always food in the cage or on the outside of the cage for support feeding, till they’re fit enough to manage and find enough food to feed themselves in the wild. Eventually they stop coming back. Thanks Sandra for the video footage and update. I love seeing how my rescues are doing.
