Keeping the original idea about self-sacrifice and saying goodbye while delivering suspense and intensity within a six-minute film demanded many story iterations, killing a lot of darlings and a great deal of concepting. “The visual style is a result of a R&D process led by our technical genius Ole Gulbrandsen, who wrote all the shaders used throughout the film in 3Delight, including cel and camera projection shaders as well as pipeline tools, and streamlined the pipeline from Maya to eyeon Fusion. A combination of leaving out specific frames and compositing the line drawing using normal passes created the 2D look from our 3D assets. A paper Ole wrote on controlling the light and dark side of toon-shading can be read on his blog here: It has since been published in a Siggraph paper. “It has been an overwhelming educational experience for everyone involved, and without the help from the school with consulting and friends who assisted with animation, the film would not have been finished on time and certainly less entertaining, so a big thank you to all you awesome people!“ Animation: Andreas Thomsen, Ole Gulbrandsen, Louie Ishii, Esben Andersen Toolkit Maya, 3Delight for Maya, Fusion, Photoshop, ZBrush Follow us on: Google : And our affiliate social networks: Twitter: Facebook
