In this lecture, Professor Michael Nagler discusses two “phases“ of Gandhi’s early life in India, the first as the time period between the years of 1922-1924, in which Gandhi was in prison, and second in 1931 at the height of the Freedom Struggle. Professor Nagler outlines the chronology of this first phase by synopsizing the changes in India’s politics and culture at the time - particularly changes in levels of nationalism - and Gandhi’s experience navigating those shifts.
