Seatrain was an American band formed in 1969, consisting of former members of the Blues Project and the Jim Kweskin Jug Band. They were known for blending elements of rock, folk, and classical music into their sound, and were pioneers of what would later be called “progressive rock.“ Their debut album “Sea Train“ was released in 1969 on A&M Records. The album features eight tracks, including the title track “Sea Train,“ “Let The Duchess No,“ “Portrait Of The Lady As A Young Artist,“ and “Outwear The Hills.“ One of the standout tracks on the album is “Sweet Creek’s Suite,“ a multi-part epic that showcases the band’s range and musicianship. The song incorporates elements of jazz, rock, and classical music, and features intricate arrangements and virtuosic instrumental performances. Overall, “Sea Train“ was well-received by critics and helped establish Seatrain as one of the leading progressive rock bands of the late 1960s. While the band would go through numerous lineup changes over the years, their debut album remains a classic of the genre and a testament to their innovative and eclectic approach to music. All of the members had previously played in other bands, with Kulberg and Greene being former members of the Blues Project, and Baskin and Roberts having played in the Jim Kweskin Jug Band. Seatrain was known for their unique sound, which blended elements of rock, folk, and classical music. In addition to their diverse musical influences, the band was also notable for their use of unusual instruments such as the violin and flute. After the release of their debut album “Sea Train,“ the band continued to tour and record, releasing several more albums over the years. However, they went through numerous lineup changes and struggled to maintain a stable roster of members. Despite this, Seatrain continued to be influential in the world of progressive rock, and their legacy can still be heard in the music of many artists today.
