Lammy Blocks Mandela’s Grandson From Entering The UK Out Of Spite?

After Mandla Mandela called David Lammy an ’apologist for genocide’ back in May, has he now been banned from entering the UK out of spite? Right, so it would appear Keir Starmer’s government is now so reactionary, that the thought of a prominent South African anti-apartheid spokesperson and therefore by extension a prominent critic of Israel and supporter of pro Palestinian rights, as post apartheid South Africa has always been, can’t be permitted entry to the UK. When you think about South Africa and the end of apartheid, the name Mandela becomes synonymous with that, Nelson Mandela becoming the first post apartheid president in South Africa. Well now his grandson, Zwelivelile Mandela, who Fortunately for me goes by the much easier to pronounce Mandla Madela more generally, himself and ANC politician as his grandfather was before him, has been banned from the UK to take part in a tour of pro Palestinian events around the country. The order to do so has apparently come from David Lammy, a man who can’t shake enough Israeli hands when given the opportunity and has been heavily funded by the Israel Lobby, but after Mandla Mandela had some choice words for Lammy a few months ago for his pro Israel proclivities, has the demand that Mandela need a visa – which South African citizens generally don’t need to visit the UK – and the subsequent blocking of that to stop him coming, been done out of spite? Right, so there is absolute hell up over the banning of a Mandela of all people, of all families from being allowed to come to the UK. The optics are abominable, the most anti-racist of families, a name that is synonymous with the battle against racism, Nelson Mandela’s nearly three decades long imprisonment for the crime effectively of just being black a travesty of world history that should never be repeated, but of course whilst it came to an end in South Africa, no such thing has happened in the Middle East, regarding Israel and Palestine. Mandela was already years into his prison sentence when Israel occupied Palestine and the Golan Heights and is on record as saying a apartheid isn’t over for as long as Palestine remains occupied, or words to that effect. He was right. Where here in the 1980’s Mandela was considered a terrorist, now he is seen as somebody who should looked up to. The resistance wasn’t always peaceful in South Africa that’s for sure, but the oppressed have a right to reject their oppressors, so for as much as Keir Starmer is quick to rush to a podium to condemn Hamas or Hezbollah, or Iran or the Houthis for their methods, their actions, the historical precedent is set and as much as might wish for a peaceful solution, you also have to look at Benjamin Netanyahu and realise it’s impossible to arrive at such a thing with a man like that leading Israel right now. Where the likes of Lammy and Starmer are happy to press the flesh with Netanyahu and take pro Israel donations because they are so easily bought and paid for, where history looks kindly on the likes of Mandela, they won’t on Israel and those sellout politicians around the world defending the indefensible.
