About Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5
Ludwig van Beethoven wrote Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67, between 1804 and 1808. One of the most popular symphonies in classical music, the Fifth Symphony is widely regarded as one of the cornerstones of western music. This symphony is considered one of the most important works of the time. A four-note motif from the opening of this symphony is widely known throughout popular culture.
Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 also had a specific name besides its numbering, like his Eroica (heroic) and Pastorale (rural). Initially, it was known as “Schicksals-Sinfonie“ (Fate Symphony) and its five-bar theme was known as “Schicksals-Motiv“ (Fate Motif).
