This song is also referred to as Drunkard’s Hiccups, and a few other various names from region to region and is one of the most widespread American folk songs to date. Do any of y’all remember this song from growing up? If so, where are you from because I’d be curious to know. There are also a lot of different versions of the lyrics... do you have any?
Tex Ritter first recorded this in 1933, which happens to be the same year that prohibition was lifted... but the song itself is much older. The Traditional Ballad index shows the first appearance of this song in 1910, but many believe, including me, the song to be much older than that.
