Roumanian Ciocarlia `Flight of the Lark’ (Gypsy style) ▪ Nick Ariondo, accordion-composer

Nick CD Youtube channel Nick Ariondo’s version ’Roumanian Ciocarlia (Flight of the Lark)’ is a unique blend of romanian, gypsy-style, ciocarlia and compositional interplay ~ a special tribute to the music of Romania, the gypsies and their worldly contributions. Composers Georges Enescu Franz Liszt, Johannes Brahms, Pablo Sarasate and others utilized folk/gypsy music in their compositions..... At an early age Ariondo had the opportunity to perform with gypsy musicians, singers & dancers, listening to recordings & performing with internationally known violinists Rima Rudina, Shony Alex Braun, Sooren (Suren) Alexander, among others, including Romany/linguistics colleague Peter Landerman. . . . . In this specialized version showcasing the accordion’s versatility, Nick depicts the ’songbird-flight of the lark’ by utilizing a variety of techniques: from dramatic shaking of the bellows in the opening section to right-hand glissandi swiftly gliding across the keyboard at nano-second speed, to emulating the lark’s movements with fluttered trills and left-right hand tremolo effects as played on string and woodwind instruments ~~ a complete orchestra with melodies, harmonies, bass lines & rhythmic accompaniement. All of the above is part of Nick’s presentation as composer/performer in sharing his vision of the accordion as an instrument of unlimited possibilities. The solo performance on this video featured Nick Ariondo in concert with violinist/historian Miamon Miller and his ensemble, the ’Garlic Band’.
