Emperor’s ‘Jealousy’, ‘Close To You’ from label boss Kasra, YAANO’s ‘Drained’ and Particle’s link-up with MC Verbz on ‘Stay The Night’ bring the late-night soul amongst a collection of tracks conceived for and born from the darkest corners of the dance floor. There are tough, no nonsense and expertly crafted rhythms from well established names Enei, Calyx, T-I and Samurai Breaks (who debut on Critical with the manically experimental ‘Lemon Poppers’). As always with Critical, though, the focus here is firmly on the future, with the bulk of tracks coming from the many newer names who have debuted on the label and its talent-shaping offshoot Binary over the last couple of years.
