Turpin Beats “Polly“ Smith (1955)

Birmingham, West Midlands. GV. Boxing fight between ex-world champion Randolph Turpin and Bermudan cruiserweight champion “Polly“ Smith in progress. Turpin with broad white stripe down his pants. SCU. Exchange of blows. Turpin lands a left on Smith’s jaw, and Smith returns a left to Turpin’s head, but does not do any damage. SV. Smith wades into Turpin and forces his back to the ropes. Turpin fights his way off the ropes in a tight clinch. CU. People watching. SCU. Smith attacks with a left to Turpin’s jaw but it goes wide, he follows with a right to Turpin’s jaw but this also misses. He swings another left which doesn’t connect and follows this with a right to the head but Turpin ducks and it goes wide. Turpin brings in a left which connects with Smith. They go into a clinch. SV. Boxers still in clinch. They break. The bell sounds and they return to their corners. CU. Smith in corner with his seconds. CU. Turpin in his corner with his seconds. CU.
