The Aquanettas-Run

Bio By She Rox All Female Bands: The Aquanettas began in 1986, in New York City by guitarist and lead vocalist Deborah Schwartz, along with guitarist Jill Richmond, drummer Stephanie Seymour and bassist Claudine Troise the band soon signed to a Canadian label that released their material through Records in the states. The band quickly built a strong local following for their unique style of rock, that borders on pop with crunchy guitar hooks that resembles a Ketih Richards feel from guitar virtuoso Jill Richmond. Described by many to be guitar driven rock, The Aquanettas blended well a touch of pop and alternative rock that could have been the birthplace to the indie rock genre that would dominate the music scene years later. They released their debut full length album in 1990, “Love with The Proper Stranger“ and although the record gained positive reviews, lack of support from for the record left the band unhappy and soon parted ways. However constant touring helped to showcase the talent of the band and touring with the likes of Nine Inch Nails opened the band to an even larger audience. Though the album itself may not have been a resounding commercial success, it created a buzz for the band that proved its substance was far greater than anything that currently inundated the Top 40 at this time yet found a home in heavy rotation on college and minor radio stations. The band would opt for releasing their next two Ep’s independently along with several singles, all of which have become much sought after by diehard fans, as well as new fans that are currently discovering the Aquanettas. The band called it quits in 1995, and have been called one of the most underrated bands from the 1990’s, ahead of their time ,The Aquanettas as a band had a strong run, almost 10 years under their belt and truly paid their dues as a band through determination and hard work, something not seen in current day music and proof that the music industry has many failures in itself for not giving due credit when it was earned and by such an important band that helped define the 1990’s as a decade in musical style.
