The Freedom Caucus holdouts who denied Kevin McCarthy’s bid for Speaker through 14 votes were just grandstanding and had no actual objectives they were willing to demand in exchange for their votes, right? Turns out no, that after the smoke cleared McCarthy was only awarded the Speaker’s gavel after making major concessions on border and term limit votes, committee assignments, investigating the FBI and a range of other issues.
