Colter’s Hell Hot Springs (1973)

Mammoth Hot Springs, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, . This is a beautifully filmed montage of the Geysers and Hot Springs in Yellowstone Park . Close ups of bubbling white coloured mud, steam and bubbles emerging from clear water on the surface of terraces of calcareous deposits covering about 200 acres of the park. Natural sounds are mixed with human breathing to create the effect of a living creature. As the film progresses the shots become wider and reveal the background landscape of this awesome place. At times it reveals a barren Luna landscape with white clouds of hot steam drifting across the surface. Sometimes snow and fir trees are seen in the background. The steaming geysers get larger as the film progresses with an enormous eruption towards the end as the natural sounds are mixed with a final musical chord There is no commentary to the film.
