Kayagum is a 12-string half-tube plucked zither with movable bridges (Kaya=an ancient Korean kingdom; gum/kum=string instrument). Today it is one of the most popular Korean instruments. It features in much court music, notably in Yongsan Hoesang, and in two folk genres---Sanjo (“scattered melodies“) and Kayagum Byongchang (a song accompanied by the instrument).
