Tilicho

In this high place, it is as simple as this; leave everything you know behind step towards the cold surface say the old prayer of rough love and open both arms those who come with empty hands will stare into the lake astonished there in the cold light reflecting pure snow the true shape of your own face This is a poem called Tilicho lake, read here by its author David Whyte I discovered it via the radio show which takes it’s name from the words “Stare into the lake astonished“ its their theme song, though they usually end with it, I heard it once and found it unforgettable, had to find out what it was. and I’m not a huge poetry buff.
