Thingaloor - The Lord Chandra’s Temple (The Planet Moon) Thingallur is located 18 kilometres from Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, India. It is small agricultural village located in the Cauvery Delta region, Tamil Nadu, India. The village is surrounded by rice paddy fields in Tanjore district. which known as “The Rice Bowl of Tamil Nadu“. The Temple is situated in the heart of the village deticated to the Moon god. This Temple is one of the nine Navagraha sthalas. The Temple was built in the 7th century A.D. by Pallava King. The presiding deity in this temple is Soma (moon). The main idols are Kailasanadhar (Lord Shiva) and Periyanayagi (Goddess Parvati). During the month of Panguni (Mar - Apr) the rays of the moon fall on the Shiva Lingam. Also considered to be very special time to visit for those who have mental sorrows & physical illness are said to be solved. People pray for removal of obstacles for child boon and progress in education. People throng here to pray to moon and lighting ghee lamps. It should be understood that showing the moon to the child while feeding is not simply to make the child cheerful and eat but there is a spiritual aspect too.
