Peru protests: Indigenous women and police clash in anti-government demonstrations

Protesters and police clashed in Peru’s capital Lima on Saturday, during a protest to demand President Dina Boularte’s resignation and new elections. Female indigenous protesters and police were seen pushing and hitting each other as tear gas canisters were kicked down the street, rolling back and forth between demonstrators and officers. At least one person was injured, local media reported. Demonstrators accuse Boluarte’s government of killing over 60 people in waves of protests that began when her predecessor, leftist President Pedro Castillo, was removed from office and jailed last December.
