Harwood Hotel first hotel was built in 1870 and was called the after “Morpeth on the Hunter River”, It was a house a large two story with a drinking room and located near the bridge to the Pacific Highway, the first Europeans settled the area around the 1830s due to the abundance of cedar. Sugar cane production began in the 1850s, and the Harwood Mill opened in 1874 and is still in operation.
The village of Harwood and the Harwood Hotel is still a thriving Village with the Cane Mill still operational and Antique shop across the road, the pub is the hub of the town supporting local sports and community activities a bit of a weekend destination for the foodies 5ks out of Maclean and Yamba up the road and across from the Clarence River siting back enjoying a quite beer.
The hotel has some wonderfull old world charm and old history if you take the time to look around.
