Ecrire (1993) Benoit Jacquot

A long interview between Marguerite Duras and Benoît Jacquot on the subject of writing and of solitude, in the house in the country where Marguerite Duras lived alone for several years; the years in which she wrote The Vice-Consul and Le Ravissement de Lol V. Stein. Marguerite Duras (1914-1996) in her house in Neauphle-le-Château, three years before her death, to further question the act of writing, the loneliness that founds it, inevitably on the verge of madness... But Duras also knows how to be facetious, and to turn to her advantage the principles of the interview which then becomes dialogue - bequeathing the doubt, with which she says she constantly battles, to Benoît Jacquot, invited to respond himself to his concerns as a filmmaker. The elementary device, set up by Benoît Jacquot, is entirely at the service of this speech: the static shots of Duras are interspersed from time to time by shots of this house, apparently empty, in reality populated by Durassian ghosts: Vice -Consul in mind of course, many passing friends, but also a fly whose agony one day she followed... Between humor and pathos, the words of Duras impose themselves with their usual authority, prolong the mystery of ’a unique life experience.
