Da Nappy Headz (not to be confused with Nappy Headz from Florida - a decade later) hailed from Danville, Illinois - and landed a record deal (albeit a short-lived one) in an atypical fashion - via Oprah WInfrey - As reported about six years ago in the group’s hometown Commercial News = “In November 1993, the group’s managers took the singers to Chicago to attend an “Oprah Winfrey” taping. They were sitting in the second or third row, not knowing what was about to happen. Not seen by the audience, Winfrey was telling the TV audience: “We’ve got some good news.” When the show resumed, a representative from Polydor Records surprised the group with a music contract, and they came onstage for that, completely in shock. “Oprah looked at us and said, ‘What did you think you were here for?’” Mason recalled“ - This single “I’m Nappy“ is the only official release on the group’s Discogs page.
