Walnuts contain something called alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). ALA is a precursor for EPA and DHA, which are omega-3 fatty acids. Alpha-linolenic acid can potentially help prevent certain skin issues, such as: • Scaly skin  • Dermatitis  • Hyperpigmentation  • Skin atrophy  When ALA converts to EPA and DHA, it can help with various things, including supporting your heart and brain, decreasing inflammation, and the list goes on and on. There are some interesting studies that show benefits for your cardiovascular system. Studies also show a shift from small particle size LDL to large particle size LDL.  Walnuts contain folate, polyphenols, and vitamin E. They are also low in lysine and high in arginine.  Arginine can potentially help: • Increase growth hormone  • Rid excess ammonia  • Increase nitric oxide and support cardiovascular health • Support healthy blood pressure  The problem is that raw walnuts contain phytates and enzyme inhibitors. Phytates block certain minerals, and consuming them too often can create a problem with mineral absorption and digestion. Enzyme inhibitors can lead to bloating and constipation. To obtain the unique health benefits of walnuts and avoid the problems associated with them, you need to germinate the walnuts.  To germinate walnuts, all you have to do is soak them in water for 24 to 48 hours. This will remove the phytates and the enzyme inhibitors. After you soak them, you can dry them in an oven under low heat or in a dehydrator and enjoy!
