Why Chinese Christians Should Love China’s Government (Spoiler: Because the Bible says so)

Christians are in this world but not of this world. Christians have a spiritual obligation to spread the gospel and get to heaven, but Christians do not have a worldly obligation to participate in worldly politics. Christians should not obsess too much about worldly politics, because Christians are kingdom people meaning that they are people of heaven and citizens of heaven not Earth. Scripture tells Christians that they are ambassadors of heaven in this world. A well-behaved ambassador does not interfere in the politics of the country in which he is only a temporary resident. As “ambassadors for Christ“ (2 Cor ; cp. Eph ) it is not right for to devote to earthly politics that time and effort which could be spent in the service of the Lord. Christians have to obey the law of the land where they live, even if being persecuted.  The book of Romans reads   “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.“ This passage was written by the Apostle Paul when Christians were being persecuted by Romans. Why did Paul write this? Because as a Christian, it is taught that God has an ultimate plan for the universe. Everything which happens with the government and politics, are part of God’s plan and it is not it is not a Christian’s duty to try to change the ultimate plan. Even if the authorities are repressive like the Romans, The Bible does not advocate for armed uprising against the governing authorities. Take the example of Jesus. Jesus was arrested by the Romans and he went peacefully to become crucified. He clearly stated to Roman authorities that armed uprising was not in his plan. He did not order his followers to fight the Romans. In the Christian faith, being persecuted is a gift. Enduring hardship and a season of hardship is what refines a person’s character.  So in conclusion, some Chinese Christians, using religion for political purposes and inciting rebellion are wrong and should behave accordingly. Obey the law of the land, submit yourself to the authorities, and be an exemplary person even if facing hardship. ----------- 0:00 Intro Some “Christians“ Incited the HK Riots 2019 1:28 A HK Pastor Forced His Congregation to Pick a Side in Worldly Politics 2:26 Christians have a spiritual obligation to spread the gospel but no worldly political obligation. 3:07 Christians should not obsessed too much about politics 3:39 Christians should obey the law, even if govt is oppressive.
