We can literally take any recording of Furtwängler performing the “Eroica“ and call it a day. His particular genius for the work is extraordinary by any standard. The 1947 recording is one of his most talked about and admired, and it is certainly everything its advocates say that it is.
Walter Legge produced this and his other recordings made in Vienna that year, and it was an important one in terms of the Furtwängler discography, producing some of his greatest recordings.
