Bluomenrot [Medieval German song][+English translation]
Sung by Estampie.
This song appeared in the Codex Manesse, also known as the Heidelberg song manuscript:
It is the most comprehensive source of Middle High German poetry, Minnesang love poetry in particular.
It’s named after the Manesse family from Zürich, for whom it was produced around the year 1300.
Containing many wonderful songs and also great painted imagery, it is a true treasure of German culture,
and a priceless window to the past. The collection features 426 pages
with works of 140 famous artists from ~1150 to 1300, each depicted with a portrait.
The artists are not ranked by number of works or by fame as poets, but by their rank in society:
And the alleged artist behind this wonderful song occupies the second-highest spot of them all!
Konrad von Hohenstaufen was born as the heir to Konrad IV., King of Germany, Sicily and Jerusalem,
and candidate to become Emperor. Konrad IV. was the son of Emperor Friedrich II.,
one of the most famous rulers
