Christus vincit - Laudes regiae: acclamations for the emperor
“The imperial acclamations, a form inherited from Roman antiquity, easily made the transition to a liturgical celebration confirming the sovereign’s legitimacy as a ruler chosen by Christ, a protector of the Church. In the Carolingian period these ’Laudes Regiae’ were transformed into a dazzling display of litanies celebrating saints and kings alike.“
Sequentia (Benjamin Bagby, director) and Dialogos (Katarina Livljanić, director) perform “Christus vincit“ (’Laudes regiae’).
