Oscar Morley : ’Mignon’, Nouvelle Danse de Salon (1895)

Phillip Sear plays a once-popular dance by the obscure British(?) composer ’Oscar Morley’ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am not sure who ’Oscar Morley’ was, but suspect that it is a pseudonym. This dance, published in time for the ’Christmas season’ of 1895, was said in contemporary reviews to combine the characterstics of waltz and mazurka. It seems to have had a surprising international popularity, particularly in Scandinavia and Russia (I played from a Russian edition). My thumbnail features a painting of Goethe’s character Mignon by Ary Scheffer (1836). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear (Email: piano4@ WhatsApp: )
