[ircam] Beat Furrer - Composition Class, June 22, 2016

Pianist by training, Beat Furrer moved to Vienna in 1975 to study composition with Roman Haubenstock-Ramati. In 1985, he created the Klangforum Wien ensemble, which he managed until 1992. Since then he has been teaching at the University of Graz. Visual arts, literature and jazz form the background from which his first works are born. Some of his techniques are analogous to plastic processes: superposition of layers that surround an object by revisiting the same structure, effects of chiaroscuro... The tendency to leave certain elements not fixed, or to let the figures develop autonomously remains a mark of his writing. The voice, from the stammering noise to the constituted language, occupies a decisive place in his music. Original video -
