Wellington Arch (1948)

London. Various views of Wellington Arch and Hyde Park Corner. Views of the area from just beneath the statue with the horse’s legs in the shot. We then see various shots inside the tiny police station that is situated inside the Arch. A policeman comes into the station and speaks to a sergeant at the desk. He is given the numbers of stolen cars to watch out of while on traffic duty. He goes out again and we see him taking over from another bobby, holding up traffic at a crossing. We are told the police station is also “a sort of Royal Lodge gatekeeper to the King“. A policeman at a desk receives a telephone call from Buckingham Palace saying a royal car is about to leave. He passes a note to the duty sergeant, giving the exact time the car will pass under the arch. The sergeant puts on his helmet and goes out. We see an old man in uniform unlocking the gates under the Arch with a huge key. The royal car is seen approaching and driving through the Arch. An off-duty policeman makes a c
