Oranges (1940-1949)

British Instructional Films presents a Classroom Film. Shot of an orange grove. Grafting the young trees in the nurseries. Shot of men working in the orange fields. C/U of a shoot being grafted on to another plant. Then the trees are transplanted into the orange grove. The field is ploughed by a tractor with a man steering the plough behind. Trees are sprayed by water sprinklers. The trees are fumigated. A large cover is drawn over the orange trees and a man uses a pump to spray pesticide inside the cover. Shots of the trees bearing oranges. Fruit picking. Good shots of men high in the trees on bamboo ladders picking the fruit. Shot of a child at the bottom of the ladder holding his hand out for an orange, man at the top throws one down and child peels it, smiling. Bags full of oranges are tipped into collecting boxes.
