USA Qms (1942)

Titles read: “USA QMS“. Somewhere in England. Various shots of African-American soldiers unloading supplies from a train at a US base in England (soundtrack plays ’The Old Folks At Home / Swanee’) and taking them to the Quarter Master’s store on trolleys. Other soldiers check the goods that are piled up. Quick shots show barrels and boxes of items such as smoked bacon, sweet potatoes, apple raspberry jelly, fancy sliced pineapple, apple butter, marmalade etc (mmm!). Commentator says “Digest the selection - you’ll never get to digesting it any other way“. Staged sequence shows an African-American soldier about to sink his knife into a large tin of pineapple chunks, but he is stopped by an officer. Some may find the commentator’s line (“Looked very much like a case of black marketing“) offensive. FILM ID:1346.2 A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. EXPLORE OUR ONLINE CHANNEL, BRITISH PATHÉ TV.
