Bread Exhibition (1949)

Rome, Italy. Bread exhibition documentation states on Rome’s Via Cassia, there is a building belonging to the National Institute of Genetics and named the ’The Bread Museum’. It is only one of its kind in Italy. The bread on view comes from every region of Italy, made in flowers, animals & stars. In Spain the style is almost Baroque; in Argentina, ornate; in Chile, it is made on the lines of the art which existed before Columbus; Holland’s sweet buns; New York some monuments; in France the art of bread making was practised during the time of Catherine de Medici; in Sardinia on special days and feast days bread is made in forms of shells, stars, cocks, corals and even in the form of receptacles for holy water.
