Tim Souster - Spectral - viola and electronics

Garth Knox playing Tim Souster’s “Spectral“. Sound design by Ian Dearden and David Sheppard from Sound in the 70s, using innovative analogue effects, the piece is based on whalesong. The viola sound is processed in several layers, now using digital effects which imitate the analogue ones, and using the original lighting plan - each section corresponds to a certain color, and the final part includes strobe lighting which is directly linked to the speed of the electronic “chopper“ effect.
