In this video, I demonstrate how the Sage Ashi Dachi (crane stance) with the “cup and saucer“ position of the hands can be used as a shoulder lock in newaza (ground fighting). The legs in the crane stance is an obvious figure-4 which is used to entangle the arm in kesa gatame. The “cup & saucer“ position of the hands lifts the head which in turn puts more pressure on the shoulder.
