Live in Concrete presents: A live performance of Backxwash’s title track from her project ’STIGMATA’ in celebration of the EP’s 2-year anniversary. Backxwash aka Ashanti Mutinta is a Zambian-Canadian rapper & producer based in Montreal, Quebec. She is most noted for her 2020 album God Has Nothing To Do With This Leave Him Out Of It, which won the 2020 Polaris Music Prize. While creating the STIGMATA EP, Backxwash continued to build her sample-flipping skills that she explored in the production of ’God Has Nothing’, while also learning how to lay drums and layer her production for a much bigger sound. All the samples on the EP are derived from Christian black metal, which inspired complex arrangements and empowered the industrial sound on her 2021 record ’I LIE HERE BURIED WITH MY RINGS AND MY DRESSES’. This album features productions by Backxwash, clipping., Nowhere2Run, as well as features by Censored Dialogue, Lauren Bousfield, Sad13, and Ada Rook. He
