Babinski Reflex Assessment in Newborn Infant | Pediatric Nursing Clinical Skills

Babinski reflex assessment (test) in a newborn / infant: Pediatric nursing clinical skills demonstration. One of the important reflexes you’ll want to assess in a newborn baby is the Babinski reflex, also called a Babinski sign. QUIZ: When the bottom of the foot is stroked (from the heel to the top), you will be able to assess this reflex in the infant / newborn. When tested, the big toe should lift up in a backwards motion (dorsiflex), while the other toes also flare out. It is important to note that in an adult, this reflex will be reversed. The big toe should curl inward when the heel is stroked in an adult.
