Australasian Bittern “Botaurus poiciloptilus“

Australasian Bittern “Botaurus poiciloptilus” Australasian Bittern is a large bird that is very shy, it lives within reeds and rice paddies feeding on crustaceans, snails, frogs and even small birds, this is a collection of short videos and images that I have taken. I was very surprised when this beauty I accidentally flushed out of the roadside and began to walk keeping a careful eye on me, and then hide with it standing still as to not be noticed by me. A very prehistoric looking bird as this was the first time in viewing the magnificent creature. Videos and photographs I have taken are from the Western Treatment Plant around the T-Section pondages, Victoria, Australia. The Western Treatment Plant is located in Werribee South in Victoria, Australia. It’s an amazing place for bird watching, highly recommended to visit if you are in the area, you will need to get a Bird Watching permit from Melbourne Water before you can, as access is behind locked gates. *************************
