“Game changer“: Germany officially approves sending Leopard battle tanks to Ukraine

After weeks of hesitation that saw growing impatience among Germany’s allies, Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced Wednesday that his government would provide Ukraine with Leopard 2 battle tanks and approve requests by other countries to do the same. “This is an important game changer possibly also in this war, at least in the current phase of the war,“ German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said, adding, “We will not become a party to the war, we will make sure of that.“ Germany says the tanks would be on the ground in Ukraine in three months.
