Gyotaku is the Japanese art of fish printing. That is, catching fish, painting them with ink and pressing them against washi paper, leaving behind their imprint. In ancient Japan, gyotaku would be used to settle fishing competitions. In this video, I explore the history of the art, the different processes of fish printing and gyotaku in modern-day Japan.
