Wrist-mounted crossbows - Would they work in real life?

Just some musings about the concept of a wrist crossbow, which we so often see in sci-fi, post-apocalyptic and fantasy movies as well as video games. What would be the challenges and issues if one were to try to make a functional wrist bow? In the video I briefly explain the basics of how bows and crossbows work (poundage, draw length, powerstroke, kinetic energy) and why a crossbow needs to have a higher draw weight to yield the same damage potential as a bow.
